The Story Behind Mummification

The process of mummification, or the process of preserving a dead body, was started by the god Osiris, the god of Death.  It started when Osiris's evil brother Set cut him into 14 separate peices and scatered them across the lands of Egypt.  Isis, Osiris's sister and wife, went to Anubis the jackel god and got help finding the peices of her husband and putting them back together.  They couldn't bring him back to life, but they still put in back together with strips of linen.  They wrapped everything but his hands, which hold the two royal septers of Egypt.
